Shark Guardian at Oceans 5 Gili Islands
It is already the second time that our friends of Shark Guardian visited dive resort Oceans 5.
This time is was for a presentation of University students from America. They came to Indonesia to learn more about the eco systems and eco tourism.
The students were at Gili Air for 3 days and every night there was a little presentation about a specific topic.
The first night: The first night the turtle was highlighted. The Gili Islands are really famous for their turtles. And we are lucky enough to have 3 kind of turtles here in our waters, the Hawksbill, the Green Sea, and Olive Ridley.
PADI Course Director Sander Buis explained what kind of turtles there are in the world, which ones are around the Gilis, and what the dangers are for these animals. Specially Sander told about the "lost Years" of the turtles. No one knows exactly what happened with a turtle between birth and 6 years old.
The second night: The second day there was a presentation about the history of the Gilis. Topics were Blast fishing, Compressor fishing, El Nino 1997-8, Bleaching 2010, Coastal Developments and Waste water management. After the presentation there was an open discussion forum. It was really fun, and every one learned a lot.
The third night: The third day, Caroline of Blue Corner Dive and Shark Guardian leader, came.
She had a talk for 2 hour about sharks and how important they are for our eco systems.
Oceans 5 is very proud about these 3 successful days.
Oceans 5 will organize in the future more of these events. Cos education is knowledge... For more information about Oceans 5, Shark Guardian, Eco systems around the Gilis write us an email: email@example.com
