Project Aware: Dive against Debris with Oceans 5 dive resort Gili Islands

The last couple of weeks the weather was not as normal. Big waves, heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms were an every day event on the Gili Islands. This didnt make is easy to organise a clean up dive. But last week the weather changed. And it become beautiful as normal. Oceans 5 dive resort organised again a dive against debris. 11 Oceans lovers joined the dive and collected all kind of rubbish. Beer bottles, cans, platic bags, plastic papers, oil bottles, sunglasses, etc is what the divers took out of the Harbor. This time it were 8 bags of rubbish. Oceans 5 dive resort like to thank all the people who helped them to collect the rubbish and make the ocean a bit better.   Oceans 5 dive resort organises every wednesday a dive against debris. Another turtle release on the Gili Islands

The day started with sunsine. It was a perfect day to release some of the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles. But just before the release should started rain came as a waterfall from above. We descided to wait for another hour and see what the weather was. And luckely it became nice again. Oceans 5 dive resort released yesterday another 20 Olive Ridley Turtles. The average size of the turtles was 23 cm. They stayed 6 months at Oceans 5 and they grow in 6 months 16 cm. There are still 8 Olive ridley turtles at Oceans 5 dive resort. These ones were to small for release. In a few weeks it will be their turn. The 200 little baby turtles are growing fast. Every day Oceans 5 is feeding all the turtles twice and getting the Turtles new sea water. Oceans 5 like to thank Simone, Nun, Rizal , Bahry and Majid for their good care of the Turtles. Oceans 5 dive resort received the Padi Accessibility award

Oceans 5 diver resort has received an award from Padi: the PADI Accessibility Award. Oceans 5 dive resort is the first dive centre in Asia Pacific to ever receive the PADI Accessibility Award. Oceans 5 dive resort became the only dive business in Asian Pacific to receive a prestigious PADI Accessibility Award in March 2012. The award designates a dive business with  special commitment to divers with disabilities. Padi Asia Pacific confirmed that  Oceans 5 dive resort meets PADI’s comprehensive list of criteria. The dive centre and resort with pool were built specifically with disabled guests in mind. Wide corridors, ramps and lifts allow unlimited  and easy access for wheelchair users. Oceans 5 dive resort trains its dive staff in disability practices and  some are members of IAHD, the International Association of Handicapped Divers. Oceans 5 dive resort   complete range of diving courses is accessible to all, at every level.“

Jmal became a Padi Open Water Scuba Instructor at Oceans 5 dive resort, Gili islands

After a year of hard work Jmal became a Padi Open Water Scuba Instructor at Oceans 5 dive resort . Oceans 5 dive is very proud that Jmal made it. In a few weeks Oceans 5 dive resort will offer Padi Courses in Bahasa Indonesia, teach by Jmal. But for now Jmal need some rest and sleep! Too much parties for celebration

8 new Padi instructors around the Gili Islands, Indonesia

Yesterday was an important day for 8 people here on Gili Air. It was the last day of their Padi Instructor Examination (IE). The day started bad, there was rain and wind all over Gili Air. It didnt look that good. It is easier for the candidates when they have to do their Open Water session and Rescue in flat water instead what the condotion were now rain and waves. but it didnt matter, all candidates passed it and made themselves ready for their final standards exam and last step to become a Padi Instructor. The standand exame started at 14.00 and after an hour the first candidates came out of the class room with a huge smile! All passes! All new instructors! Now it was waiting for Oceans 5 local candidate, Jmal, who has a time extention for his exame. The waiting time was nerve breaking but when he came out of the class room their was a big relief! He made it too….. Then their was the closing presentation of Padi Examinor Bridgit, followed with champagne for everyone! Oceans

Padi instructor examination on Gili Air, Gili Islands has started!

The PADI instructor examination (IE) on Gili Air, Gili Islands starts today. The examination takes 2 days and hopefully all candidates become new Padi open water scuba instructors. Today all candidates have to do a classroom presentation, dive theory exames and confined water presentation. Padi instructor development course (IDC) at Oceans 5 dive resort, Gili Air, Gili Islands, is over!

The Padi Instructor Development Course (IDC) with Oceans 5 dive resort on Gili Air is over. After 10 days hard work the candidates Jmal, Rafael, Brandon, Max, David and Sybren finished their IDC course. Eric become a Padi IDC staff instructor and want to climb high in the Padi lader. After the IDC the candidates have the possibility to do some specialties for their Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) rating. This will be the next step after the instructor course. Camille Lemmens, our Paltinum Padi Course Director, is teaching today Oxygen provider, Enriched Air and Digital Unterwater Photography. It is now time for th candidates to dive instead to be in the classroom. The next idc will start the 19th of May.
